Information We Collect
When a school registers for our Services, they provide information regarding the school, students, and faculty. This data normally includes email addresses, names, student IDs, and student grade levels, but could also include additional information as deemed necessary by the school and Tyler Tech.
Tyler Tech has access to student data only for the purposes of performing Services on the school’s behalf. Our collection, use, and disclosure of student data is governed by our Terms and Conditions, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and all applicable laws relating to the collection and use of Student Data. Tyler Tech supports access for review of user data by school administrators, students, and teachers. Students and their parents, in compliance with FERPA, may make a request to Tyler Tech, through their school, to review their entire data set which includes all information associated with their name on Student Center. Corrections, such as data manipulation and deletion, may be done by the school administrator. A school may not generally disclose personally identifiable information from a student’s records without the written consent of the parent and/or eligible student or without meeting one of the exemptions set forth in FERPA such as the Directory Information exemption (as defined by FERPA).
How We Use Information
Tyler Tech uses information collected through Student Center to operate and improve the Services and their functionality. Tyler Teceh stores and processes Student Center data on servers hosted by GearHost, whose data centers have been certified by national security standards including SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 Audit Reports. Tyler Tech has implemented processes, procedures, and systems to ensure Customer Data, collected through Services, is safe and secure. Information collected on schools and students will not be retained for longer than necessary to provide our Services or as requested by the school. We may share non-personal information publicly and with our partners. For example, we may share information publicly to show trends about the general use of our Services.
Tyler Tech does not and will not knowingly collect information on children under the age of 13 without proper consent, in accordance with COPPA. We will never sell, collect, or use personal information collected through Student Center for any purpose other than to provide and improve Services.
Data Protection Practices
Tyler Tech takes the security and privacy of your data seriously. We implement procedures internally on who can access student data as well as common sense practices like never storing passwords in plain text. All data is transmitted over HTTPS to secure communications and ensure that even if data is intercepted it becomes useless. All of our data is proxied through Cloudflare to ensure it is protected using Transport Layer Security (TLS). While we believe that Tyler Tech’s information security practices regarding Student Center reflect good practice, there is no such thing as fully secure. As such, users assume the risk of security breaches and all consequences resulting from a security breach.
